Writing Workshops: By and for Sex Workers

Our writing workshop is something really special, it’s designed by us, for us. We created this space because we know our stories matter, and we deserve places where we can share them without having to explain ourselves or deal with judgment.

Prompts That Get Our Whole Lives

The writing prompts we use aren’t just about work stuff. They’re created with our whole life experiences in mind because we’re whole people! We write about our daily lives, our dreams, that weird thing that happened to us, childhood memories, what makes us laugh, and yeah, sometimes work too. But only if we want to.

We might explore what home means to us, or write about a moment when we felt really powerful, or create something about friendship. The prompts give us permission to be complex, to be funny, to be sad, to be whatever we are that day. There’s no pressure to share anything we don’t want to share.

Learning From Each Other

These workshops are designed to be insightful, creative, and provide community-based education. What that really means is we learn from each other. Everyone who shows up has knowledge and experiences that matter. We’re not sitting there while someone lectures us. We’re sharing skills, perspectives, and wisdom with each other.

Maybe someone knows how to write really powerful dialogue, or someone else is amazing at describing feelings, or another person has great ideas about digital storytelling. We share what we know and learn what we need. It’s education, but it’s the kind where everyone’s voice counts.

A Space to Just Exist

We center the well-being of everyone while providing a space for us to just exist! So many places want us to perform or justify why we deserve to be there. Not here. This is our space where we can be tired, excited, creative, quiet, whatever we need to be.

We’re trauma-informed, we respect boundaries, and we keep things confidential. If you want to participate fully, great. If you just want to listen, that’s fine too. If you need to step out, no questions asked. We take care of each other because that’s what community does.

All Kinds of Creative Expression

We welcome writing, oral storytelling, and digital art because people express themselves differently. Some folks love putting pen to paper, others prefer talking their stories out loud, and some want to make digital art or combine words with images. All of it’s welcome.

Why This Matters

These workshops do something important. When we create our own spaces for expression and education, magic happens. People leave feeling more confident, more connected, better at communicating what they need and want. We build relationships with each other that go beyond just this room.

We’re changing the conversation about who gets to tell stories and how they get told. We’re proving that when marginalized communities create their own platforms, the results are transformative. This isn’t just about writing – it’s about claiming space, building community, and making sure our voices are heard on our own terms.
